This scene was captured in plein air at Newport News Marina in Virginia. I have spent quite a bit of time painting the scallop boats but have never tried one out of the water. I love the shape of the hull and the massive size of the boat in relation to the buildings that surround it. It’s interesting how much of the boat is submerged when they’re in the water.
